Ok so despite what the title of this blog says this is not about me splashing about in the bath. Admittedly that idea is somewhat appealing given how achy I am right now. I think I need to rest up. I have bruises and sore joints. EEKK am I getting old?
This weekend saw me scampering off to perform in Bath at the Coco Boudoir burlesque night. The event is run by my friend Fifi Fatale and Miss Go Disco. Set in what I think was a chapel (hence the venue’s name Chapel Arts Centre) its a delightful place to perform. With ample stage area and a good lighting/sound the show looked to be a good one.
I managed to get lost in what appeared to be the most awkward one way system ever whilst trying to find the carpark in Bath. The plus side of this was getting to see the place more and my what a pretty place it is. I loved it. So much so I think I may have to just come up and visit it.
The whole event was wonderful. It really was. So well looked after and I got to meet someone whos work I have admired a lot over the years : Chrys Columbine. I probably acted like a complete dork around her.
Sometimes when performing alongside a performer I admire I often feel almost intimidated (is that the right word?). I worry that I will embarrass them with my sub standard acts or whatever. I have to say though I needn’t have worried. Chrys was even more delightful than I could hope for. Not only did her finale act hold the audience in stunned silence (I mean seriously you could hear a pin drop!) but she gave me lovely compliments on my Dark Before The Dawn act. Sadly we only got to see a little of each other’s first performances but most of each other’s second ones. It was an honour to perform on the same bill as her and my lovely Fifi. She performed from what I was told a mesmerizing fire act. There was another performer there: a rather flexible and beautiful tribal belly dancer called Pearl Boheme. Tribal belly dance is one of my favourite forms of belly dance and boy was she good. That woman’s body is like fluid…it rippled and pulsated and… and… and well let’s just say she is flexible. Plus she offered me some advice to improve my back bends that I so often do. Thanks Pearl I will definitely be looking up those moves you suggested.
Amongst the burlesque was also a fashion show of bio-degradable lingerie by Enamore and a rather dishy male singer called Gavin Lazarus. The lingerie was stunning and I was more shocked to learn of its eco friendliness. I mean seriously this stuff was wonderful. I am tempted to buy some. The designer was this super cute lady who seemed to really understand the contours of the female body and how to dress them. This season’s must buy me thinks!
The singer despite some backing track issues was very good. It helped that he was easy on the eye but lets be honest with a voice like his he could like Anne Widercombe and I would still love him. Yes I know I am odd. There is no need to tell me.
BTW the compere/host was sensational. I do love The Countess!!! She was so funny and gave great introductions for us all. Thank you darling!
Even the after show antics were fantastic. Especially as I got to meet up with Ally Katte and Tuesday Laveau who you may remember from my time in Bristol. I had many an audience member come up to me to congratulate me on my performances which made my head swell. Hahaha. Actually it made me feel rather shy and humbled. I was very very touched to receive a free gift from the lady behind Smutter and Snells. Her stall at the show was laden heavy with delightfully crafted accessories of glitter and feathers as well as hand selected pieces of jewellry. I fell in love with a lot and was very pleasantly surprised to be gifted a set of peace dove pasties.
After a long drive home through the rather beautiful night lit city of Bath I actually managed to get home at a decent hour. But what was more wonderful was the really really really long lay in I had in on Sunday. I think I eventually called out of bed at 2pm…yes I know: LAZY but to be honest I am determined more than ever to relax after gigs. I did regret not staying over in Bath to explore the city more but I had another gig in Bethnal Green to perform at.
This gig in Bethnal Green was for my dear friend and fellow performer Rose Thorne. Rose created this night in light of personal tragedy and wanted to help raise money for a hospice that is close to her heart. Given my personal dealings with cancer and its sufferers/victims this was a gig I was going to move heaven and earth to perform at. Along with great performers the night was a success. This morning I received this email from Rose:
“Thank you all SO MUCH for taking part in last nights charity extravaganza! You were all brilliant, and you made a great show! So far we’ve raised £875 for The Ayrshire Hospice, the just giving link is live for a week or so more, so if you’re friends didn’t make it feel free to guilt them into donating! http://www.justgiving.com/Elisabeth-Hannah ”
I performed my Rabbit Poison act though admittedly I could only stay till just after my act due to needing to get home so missed a lot of great performances. My quick exit did also mean that I was able to get one hell of a good nights sleep. Given how busy my weekends can be its essential that I get rest for the week ahead. I am a busy lady. VERY few late nights for me. 🙁
The show was a great opportunity to meet performers and old friends. One person I loitered around a lot with was the mischievous ReeRee Rockette, a celebrity in her own right who’s blog has bought her countless fans. Click HERE to see it for yourself. You should follow her…she is a fantastic source of information.
We had fun posing for photos and being stupid. She witnessed my rather over familiar security guard admirer hit on me and my attempts to knock him back.
It was really funny to travel home with all my rabbit make up still on. Some drunks (i mean come on how early on a Sunday!?) did a few double takes. hahaha.
I was supposed to look 80s but with my idea of a Top Gun flight suit and avatars I ended up looking more Bucky O’Hare…hahaha
A great night for a worthy cause. Thanks to all who helped publicise it including all my twitter followers such as Mrs Eddie Izzard, Angi Lamb, and the numerous others who helped generate interest in the event. I owe you a lot. Thank you. I have great twitter followers so thank you so much. To you all: kisses.
